- Hello,
I just wanted to email you to give you my thoughts on the Bags not Rags initiative that you have begun in the school. As a foster parent, I see many children arrive at our home with their belongings stuffed into garbage bags. Many of these children don't have more than one bag full of belongings, which in itself is very sad. All these kids have left from their time on earth is a trash bag full of stuff. Many times, there are things in that bag that we might find odd, like one shoe, or a broken toy. Although these things don't look valuable to me, they often have a very special meaning for the child. I find it very sad that they sometimes don't have a suitcase or duffel bag in which to move their thing into our home. The foster care agency that we work with, Hillside, makes it a priority to provide each child with a suitcase when it is time for the children to move again, but there are times when there are just not enough suitcases. I applaud your efforts to collect suitcases and bags for these children, They are truly needed and will be appreciated by the children who will receive them. Please let me know if I can assist you in collecting the bags. Thank you for your dedication to the kids. ( Debbie - NY )
