About our Organization
Bags Not Rags was founded by Mindy and Andres "Andrew" Viteri. The Viteri's focus for support and charity is children. The Shreveport Saver, Inc supports organizations like World Mission who offers support to children in need all over the world. Because of this focus, foster children seemed the strongest need in their community.
Because of their circumstances, the Viteri's are unable to foster children and understand that there are many others in their situation, so they decided to find a specific need and fill it. When they heard about the standard practise of offering trash bags to children as luggage they decided that something had to be done. With this in mind, they decided to form a nonprofit organization to collect, purchase and distribute luggage-style bags to these children to help ease what is already a horrible situation for foster children.
Social Services is underfunded and the pay for social service workers is not near high enough for the jobs they do full-heartedly. With this in mind, there is no way for them to give these children eveything they wish they could. We know that many give out of their own pockets just to help children but there are too many to help them all. This is where we step in.
There are many holes in our system. If we can each find one small hole and plug it, we would provide the best life possible for children in foster care.
